Shackle Insulators used for low voltage distribution lines. Porcelain shackle insulators are used at sharp turns where there is excessive tensile load on the lines. Shackle type insulators of electricity can be mounted either in the vertical or horizontal position.
Porcelain shackle insulators are mounted axially, the loading is on circumferential grooves in the insulator, the conductor is secured in the groves by means of soft-bending wires. Shackle insulators are bolted to the cros-arm of the pole.
